Ballance House

This farmhouse museum was the birthplace of John Ballance, New Zealand's Prime Minister, 1891-93. Displays celebrate Ulster's links with New Zealand. Open April-September, Tues-Sat and Sun, afternoons or by arrangement.

In 1760 Wills Hill built a market house (the central arcade block) with the aim of attracting Linen Manufacturers to the area. In 1810 the north and south wings were added. The south wing was used as an open market hall and the north wing housed a display on the Irish Legal System.

The elegant mansion built in the 18th Century is one of Ireland's most graceful houses. The castle is home to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum

This attraction is a must for everyone interested in Northern Ireland's history and textile heritage. The 'Flax to Fabric' exhibition spins a great yarn as it weaves the story of Ireland's world famous linen industry from the past to the present day. The linen and crafts shop is a magnet for visitors, while Cafe Crommelin is a relaxing venue for appetising refreshment.

Hillsborough Fort & Lake

Set in the beautiful Hillsborough Forest Park and built on the site of the old Maginnes Stronghold, the fort consists of a square enclosed by an earthen rampart with outer stone facing. It was constituted a Royal Fort by Charles II. William of Orange spent several nights at the fort on his way to the Boyne in 1690. Walks around the Park and Lake are enchanting.

The forest is set in the picturesque village of Hillsborough. The forest covers an area of almost 500 acres. The whole of the lake area is a forest wildlife sanctuary.

off B105 between Soldierstown and Aghalee, Northeast of M1 Moira roundabout.

There are wonderful wildlife walks along the Old Ulster Canal. There are migrant and native ducks, geese and other wildfowl. Coarse fishing available (license required).
