LCAC was successful in the second CCTV Challenge Competition 2001 and was awarded capital grants for CCTV schemes in Dunmurry, Hillsborough and Moira with 4 cameras in each location. All three schemes were commissioned in 2002. A further two cameras were commissioned in Lisburn City Centre during 2003 to enhance the comprehensive coverage of movement around the city centre. The CCTV Control Room, based in Lisburn Police Station, is staffed by qualified personnel 24 hours every day. Separate secure access to the CCTV Control Room is maintained at all times. The specific sites for the original 11 cameras, supplemented by an additional 2 cameras in 2003, were chosen because of their strategic value. Access to and from the city centre together with specific destinations and heavily utilised areas are all covered. Each camera has the capability to pan, tilt and zoom. The CCTV system, which currently meets the highest standards of manufacture and monitoring as required by the Policing Board for Northern Ireland, is upgraded and refined in response to operational requirements. The CCTV system and Radiolink are owned by Lisburn Commerce Against Crime. |
