Castle Gardens was a hive of activity on Saturday with the Midsummer Fayre and Bike Week’s cycle events taking place. Not only did the sun come out but so did the beginner cyclists, the cycle enthusiasts and the pros.
Lisburn Road Safety Committee and Tri Cycle organised 2 guided cycles, the first cycle departed from Castle gardens at 10 am and this was the more experienced cyclists covering approximately 17 miles of the outskirts of Lisburn. The family cycle took off from Castle Gardens at 11am before being lead through the city centre and along the tow path by Karen Mawhinney of Tri Cycle. Both cycles meet at Drumbeg car park for light refreshments before returning to Castle Gardens for the Midsummer Fayre.
Cllr Andrew Ewing, Chairman Lisburn Road Safety Committee was amongst the participants of the family cycle and commented on the day’s event, “Today has been a great success with a fantastic turn out at both cycles. Lisburn City Centre Management and Lisburn Road Safety Committee have done an excellent job on promoting cycling as a source of fitness and family fun, not to mention an alternative form of transport. It has been a while since I cycled 8 miles but it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be!”
Councillor Jenny Palmer, Chairman of Lisburn City Council's Economic Development Committee was also present for the departure of the family cycle and commented, “I was delighted to see so many people from across Lisburn taking part in this event to promote the awareness of cycling.  It was great to see Lisburn Historic Quarter buzzing with activity on a Saturday morning.  We hope that people enjoyed their visit to the City Centre and will return again now that they know just how accessible it is for both visitors coming from the local community and those from farther afield.'

Cllr David Archer, Chairman of Lisburn Council’s Leisure Services Committee who’s Community Festivals Fund has helped fund the activities added, ‘Bike Week activities have helped to bring the community together in our shared spaces within the City Centre. It is great to be able to support community events and festivals such as this through Lisburn City Council’s Community Festivals Fund’
