ArrowRetailers Against Crime choose Lisburn for their first Northern Ireland office

This week Retailers Against Crime Northern Ireland (RACNI) opened their first office in the province from which they can service their 260 members.

Maxine Fraser, CEO RAC explained the background to the organisation, ‘In 1997, several retailers saw the potential to develop a national information-sharing scheme in Scotland to detect and deter criminals impacting on their stores’ profitability.  Retailers Against Crime (RAC) was launched in Scotland with 47 stores and today operates in 20 towns and cities in Scotland from Inverness to Dumfries, circulating information to over 600 stores including police intelligence offices.

‘Due to the success of RAC, retailers in Northern Ireland saw the potential of operating a similar scheme and in July 2007, Retailers Against Crime was launched in Northern Ireland to 260 stores throughout the Province. The Lisburn regional office in Northern Ireland will allow us to enhance service to our members here, better informing their staff to help reduce crime in member stores.’

RACNI moves into new offices with Lisburn City Centre Management and Lisburn Commerce Against Crime (LCAC) who operate Lisburn CityWatch a business Crime Prevention Scheme set up to deter and detect crime in Lisburn in association with CCTV, PSNI, Radiolink and Retailers Against Crime Northern Ireland.

Ernie Knox, Chairman LCAC commented, ‘We are delighted to welcome RACNI to their new office in Northern Ireland. I am sure the city will provide an ideal base from which RACNI can serve its retail members across the province and help them to deter and detect crime.’

Cllr James Tinsley, Deputy Chairman LCAC added, ‘It is great to see Lisburn chosen as the location for RACNI’s new regional office. I am confident that this will add to the crime prevention tools employed by Lisburn CityWatch which we launched in November 2009 in association with PSNI, RACNI, Safer Lisburn, Radiolink and City Centre CCTV.
