Lisburn like many other urban centres must review and reinvent itself in the face of changing economic, social and lifestyle trends. The new Masterplan will help to steer Lisburn through these changing, challenging times ensuring the city can reach its potential and become an inspiring city and a catalyst for regeneration in Northern Ireland.
The Masterplan will review retail capacity within the city centre as well as identifying opportunities for increased office investment. It will seek to encourage city centre living and identify a wide range of community and civic services, all of which can improve the economic and social well being of the city.
This Masterplan will build on the work that is already ongoing to help identify and promote further investment needed and development opportunities within the Historic and Laganbank Quarters. It will also compliment the Council’s economic strategy for the wider city over the next decade to sustain Lisburn’s strong reputation as a major retail, social and cultural destination.
Acting as a conduit between the public and private sectors, the team at Lisburn City Centre Management are working with Lisburn City Council, DSD the consultants, GVA Grimley and city centre stakeholders to facilitate the flow of information that will be critical to achieving a positive outcome to the visioning process.
Once the Masterplan has been completed Lisburn City Centre Management will work closely with DSD and the Council to initiate a programme of physical projects and promotional activities on the back of its recommendations.
From 27th August 2009 there will be a six week consultation process giving business owners, potential investors and the public the opportunity to give their feedback and thoughts on the plan so far. The plan will be displayed for a six week period in Lisburn Library, 1st Floor and the Lagan Valley Island Civic Centre Rotunda.
